DJ’s Dugout
777 N. 114th Street, Omaha, NE
Where we went:
This is stretching our definition of “Restaurant” a little further then we like, but they have a rather robust menu for a sports bar, so DJ’s Dugout it is! DJ’s Dugout is a local sports bar franchise here in Omaha, but tonight we visited for a non-sports related activity. We were invited by some friends to watch an original cast recording of Follies, a great Broadway musical that was revived in 2010. While we were there we tried some of their eats and drinks.
What we Eat:
Kyle and Eric both started off the evening with Moscow Mules, Kyle’s a traditional Mule, Eric a Whisky based mule. We followed that up with an order of mozzarella cheese sticks as an appetizer. For our main dish, Kyle had the Classic DJ”s burger with Swiss cheese and fries, while Eric went with a regular hamburger. Although we had what most would consider traditional bar food, two of our friends ordered the large Cobb salad, something one would not normally get at a sports bar. So there are plenty of restaurant type options on the menu to enjoy. We finished up our meal with fried cookie dough ice cream and an warm brownie with ice cream.
The Food:
The food at DJ’s is very good. Kyle had not had a nice juicy burger in a while, so his burger tasted exceptionally good tonight. Eric also enjoyed his burger. It was fairly basic (it was just their classic burger after all), but he asked if he could have a side of chipotle mayo on the side after seeing some other burgers on the menu that featured it. The chipotle mayo was actually a tad spicier than Eric expected, and was a welcome addition to his burger.
The deserts were to die for! They were warm and delicious, but also far larger then we were expecting. In fact, the brownie with ice cream was on a larger plate then Kyle’s meal was, much larger then it appeared in the picture on the menu. Of course, this is America, so we would never complain about the portion size, especially for a dessert!
The Atmosphere:
DJ’s has the feel of a high end sports bar. With granite floors, rich wood tables and chairs and countless TV’s playing every kind of sports imaginable. Though we have never been, we are sure their Nebraska Husker Game Day events must be wild. However, our group had reserved a large side room, away from the noise of the games, where we could enjoy our recording. It included a projector screen and two TVs so everyone could comfortably see a screen. Despite being right off the main bar, the wood paneled walls seemed to block out the bar noise really well. We had no issue hearing the audio.
The Service:
We had a dedicated wait staff who was gracious and fast. She got the projector and sound system set up for us, arranged the tables and served us in a friendly and efficient manner, way more then your normal sports bar staff.
In the End:
In the end, DJ’s Sports Bar is a great place for a drink, and a bite to eat. You don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy a meal at DJ’s, though it helps. It also makes reserving private event spaces easy and fun. So if you are near any of their Omaha area locations, give them a try, you won't be disappointed.
