Legends: Bar and Grill
6920 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE
Where we went:
We weren't sure where to go to eat tonight, we wanted something fairly fast, but not fast food, and something relatively close. After a discussion, Eric remembered a new place that opened just off 72nd and Pacific in the location of the old Venice Inn, the last Caniglia restaurant in Omaha (sadly with them gone, we won’t be doing a blog on them). So to Legend’s Bar and Grill we went.
What We Ate:
Despite having a quarter of the back page menu dedicated to an add to “Ask for our Drink Specials!” there were no drink specials, so Eric chose not to partake in their drinks. He did, however, order buffalo wings as an appetizer, choosing to get five in BBQ sauce for Kyle and five in teriyaki sauce for himself. For his meal he was in the mood for something lighter so he got a Southwest Chicken wrap. Kyle chose to go for something much heavier, the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Both meals came with a side of house fries.
The Food:
Kyle was pleasantly surprised by the buffalo wings. He likes wings, but, generally, wouldn’t go out of his way to eat them. However, there was something about these, they were more tender than normal, and just melted in his mouth. He definitely plans to order them there again next time. Both of us enjoyed the sauces just fine, and next time may try checking out some of the various other options Legend’s offers.

Kyle’s Pork Tenderloin sandwich was also good, it didn’t stand out to him as anything particular out of the ordinary, but it was tasty. He was a little disappointed at the amount of vegetables that it came with. He would have liked more lettuce and a tomato slice or two, but the bun was warm and the pork wasn’t completely greasy, so he can’t complain.

Eric’s wrap was . . . ok. The chipotle sauce described in the menu was what sold him on the wrap, but even after several bites, he couldn’t really taste anything. The chicken was flavorful, but the wrap just tasted like he was eating a grilled chicken salad in a tortilla. Without any dressing. After eating about almost half his wrap, he called the waitress over and asked for a side of their chipotle sauce that he could add to the wrap, thinking that it was just used too sparingly for him to notice. The waitress quickly came back with a surprisingly large cup of some bright orange sauce- so bright that it was very obvious that the original wrap did not have even a TRACE of it on there. Eric proceeded to liberally pour the sauce on his wrap every few bites, and it was delicious! It had a great zest to it and definitely elevated the otherwise bland lettuce wrap. He still has no idea if/why it wasn’t included in the first place, however.
Both of us enjoyed the fries. There didn’t seem to be much, if anything, in the way of seasoning on the fries, however they were fried in some kind of batter that was really really tasty and definitely made up for it. Eric feels they were very similar to the battered fries at another local bar and grill that we’ve visited for this blog, DJs Dugout. And, come to think of it, the chipotle sauce that Eric got seemed incredibly familiar to the chipotle sauce he got on the side for his burger at DJ’s Dugout . . . Are these two bar and grills linked, or is it just a coincidence . . . ?
The Atmosphere:
Legend’s is very much a traditional sports bar. Upon entering, Eric even stated that it looked a lot like DJ’s Dugout, another sports bar we have reviewed (SEE? THEY ARE LINKED!!! . . . maybe . . .). A mixture of black and gray walls are accented with the occasional Husker Red. The large bar in the center is surrounded by TV’s, with other TV’s flanking all the walls, each TV, of course, is set to a different sports channel. There are even a couple party rooms in the back near the kitchen and restrooms that seemed quite large as we peeked in on them, making us wonder “just how big IS this place?”.
Although we didn’t sit outside, there is a large patio, illuminated by strings of light along Pacific Street. I have no doubt that this patio is jumping on Nebraska game days. The one downside we discovered is that the booths are quite narrow. Kyle actually hit his knee on the table leg twice getting in/out of the booth. It felt like they had tried to cram as many booths along that wall as possible.
Service:
The service was good, we sat ourselves, but our waitress came over to take our order right away. She seemed in a bit of a hurry, despite them not being very busy. When Eric asked for his side of sauce, she was so enthusiastic about fulfilling his request that she started walking about before Kyle could ask for a refill of his soda too. Legend’s is located just outside the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and not far from the College of St. Mary, so it is likely that most of the staff are college students.
In the End: If you are looking for some good bar food, and/or if you are looking for just the right place to hang out on game day, Legend’s may be for you. It’s centralized location and large party rooms are perfect to gather friends from all over the City in one spot. The amount of college students will surely keep the night lively and entertaining. Just watch your knees at the booths.
