Timber: Wood Fire Bistro
8702 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE
Where we went:
Kyle and Eric were invited out to dinner with a couple of friends that we haven’t seen in a while. We let them chose the restaurant, and they chose Timber Wood Fire Bistro in Countryside Village. Neither Kyle nor Eric had been before, so this was a perfect time to try a new place for this blog!
What we Eat:
The menu was extensive at Timber, and Kyle had a hard time deciding. He finally settled on the Tomato 3 Ways, a pizza with three different types of tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and balsamic. Eric, chose to have the Piri Piri Berkshire Picnic Steak. He paired his meal with a cocktail, Buffalo Fashion (a spiced take on an Old Fashioned).
The Food:
Eric thought his meal was delicious. The waitress informed him that his steak was actually pork, which was surprising, though it didn’t deter Eric in the slightest. It was amazing! The charred bits and the glaze were flavorful and Eric would love to eat it again. Kyle, on the other hand, was a little disappointed in his meal. It’s not that it was bad, there was just something about it that didn’t click with him.
The Atmosphere:
Timber is known for one major thing, their wood burning stoves. This is apparent as soon as you enter the door. Not only can you smell the burning wood wafting out of the open kitchen, but a major part of their decor is stacks of logs. From where we were sitting I was able to count at least three walls that were made of of nothing more then logs stacked on top of on and other. One wall truly looks like a wall of wood that they pull from to stoke the fires.
Timber is a higher dining restaurant than most places we go to, although you wouldn't feel uncomfortable in a t-shirt and shorts, the fast majority of dinners were wearing collared shirts. The prices may be a little higher than, say, Applebees, but not exuberant.
One of our friends pointed out a downside to Timber; the open kitchen. For Eric and Kyle, the open kitchen seemed a nice addition, giving us a view of the wood burning fires as our food cooked. However, our friend has spent many years working in the food service industry. He doesn’t like open kitchen because, according “we don’t want to see how our food is made.” That isn’t a slap to Timberwood’s health standards, but for those with lots of food service experience, it might be a downside. Eric even thinks that the open kitchen is probably an incentive to keep the kitchen cleaner than usual because guests can see everything.
The Service:
The service at Timberwood was exceptional. The waitress was super nice, answered all of our questions and even gave us meal and wine recommendations. The food took a little longer to get to the table then at some other restaurants, but because we were chatting with our friends, and weren’t in a hurry, we didn’t even notice.
In the End:
Timberwood Fire Bistro is a nice, upscale, dining location located just of 90th and Pacific street in Countryside Village in the heart of Omaha. Although Kyle didn’t enjoy his meal this time, he will go back to try something else on the menu. Eric is definitely excited to introduce more friends to this delicious eatery, but he’ll probably wait for a special occasion to do so.
